As we recover from 4 inches of rain, followed by 2 inches of rain, and the consequent abandoning of the 2009 Sauvignon Blanc, I muse about happier times. I came across this photo. In 2001, we released 15 cases of Riesling at the winery, and we were so excited to be RECEIVING money instead of SPENDING money, I dumped the cash and credit card receipts on the breakfast room table and took a photo!
Ten years on. Good years and bad years. 2002 was rough; 2007 was rough; 2008 was fabulous. The red wine in barrel from 2008 is equivalent (according to Ron) to $200 Bordeaux wines. 2009 is shaping up to be very mediocre.
That's it. It's farming.
