Hardy souls picked the Cabernet Franc today... almost four tons. Gretchen, Judy, Andrea, Cheryl, Anna, Ron Hitt, Brittany, Steve Pearce and Amy stuck it out from 8.30 and fairly nasty rain, through a drizzle mid-afternoon until about 4.30.
It's not romantic, everyone. I did my best, supplying hot cocoa, granola bars, dry socks and even dry shoes to some... not everyone in Ripley has Goretex rain gear!
I'm glad the Franc is picked. Two picks to go, the Cabernet Sauvignon, and the Petit Verdot.
It's not the worst conditions I've ever picked in... we had one year of TORRENTIAL rain here during a pick, and some Cabernet picked in snow flurries. But it certainly wasn't "California Dreamin'".
I emailed a postcard earlier with incorrect dates on the barrel tasting, so have to spend another $140 on postage to send another postcard to correct the misinformation... the annual barrel tasting is Saturday, November 28, not the 29th which is a Sunday.
The winery is also open December 5 and 12th.
