A few years ago, the son of William Kinkead in Ireland purchased a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon for his father's 80th birthday! It is illegal to send wine in the U.S. mail, but FedEx works, although it is very expensive.
The latest adventure, for the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon (Gold Medal, Finger Lakes Competition): Todd Kinkead in Penrith New South Wales Australia ordered five bottles as presents for his family, and 12 logo glasses; the wine cost $99.75; the shipping for the wine was an eye-watering $263! I'm following the tracking number. Mascot Australia is only one hour from the final destination in Penrith. One rule I had to follow: you can't ship to a person; you have to ship to a licensed wine seller. So the wine is going to "Dannys On High (Street)"!
The weather has cooled down slightly from the brutal 90 degree plus heat a week or two ago. The vineyard is looking very healthy; fruit set was good, so we should have wines in quantity from this vintage. Quality wise, we had a lot of rain early on, so the berries are slightly large, resulting in a skin to pulp ratio that could be better; the smaller the grapes, the better the ratio, the better the color. Still it looks like the quality will be there for all these wines to be released under the Kinkead Ridge label.

A reminder: Ron and I plan on retiring to North Carolina. If you know anyone interested in purchasing Kinkead Ridge Vineyard and Winery, we'd love to talk to them! 126 acre farm with 5 acre vineyard planted in 1999, two barns, all vineyard equipment (tractor, post pounder, sprayer, picking bins, etc.), winery and all equipment (tanks, barrels, press, bottling machine, etc.) Anyone who is interested should watch our video "A Vineyard Year" on youtube. We do have some interested buyers who would do a great job. They are waiting for some financials from Ron, who of course, is buried in the vineyard as usual!
